How to Create Hidden Links 👀

Recently I was asked by a good friend of mine: “How can I hide a link from visitors but display it to Google?” and immediately words display: none; flow out of my mouth. But the longer I think about it, I think of more and more useless different ways to hide a link on your web page.

Let’s not get involved with why would you do something like Create a hidden Link on your website, but instead let’s just jump to the solutions right away.

The most obvious way to hide a link is by using a bit of CSS to hide the link by setting display to none:

This is a <a href="https://wporb.com/" style="display: none">Hidden</a> Link

And instead of This is a Hidden Link you will see This is a Hidden Link, because the CSS is telling your browser not to display the link.

However, if you check the source code of the page you will see the link is there:

Another way to hide a link is to hide it in plin sight by matching the color of the background with the color of the link, e.g. white text on a white background.

<p style="background:white"><a href="#" style="color: white!important"></a></p>

Yet another way is to make hyperlinks that are tiny, like 1-pixel high text:

<p style="font-size:1px!important"><a href="#" white!important"></a></p>

Here is how small 1px text really is:

Yes, it is so small it’s invisible!

Hiding links in something like the comma, or period in the middle of a paragraph of text is probably the easiest (laziest) way to hide links (there is a link on the comma in this sentence).

This is the most complete option in this list, to use both CSS and JS to hide a link.

<a href="#" onMouseOver="windows.status=' ';return:true;" style="cursor:text;color:black'text-decoration:none;">hidden</a>

Here is an example: this is a hyperlink but looks like ordinary text
